Terve!
I am starting out in the networking thing of PCs. So I have some questions I will throw in here.

Mainly I would like to get some use out of some older PCs. I have two Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, both with 4 x 2GB of non ECC RAM. Their mainboards went out of business, so I consider this model as a replacement:

I am planing on using Freenas and ZFS to "compensate" for the missing ECC.

My question  is: Will I be able to run a small 1TB NAS off of the PC?

Another thing is that I will have my machine "Furai" more or less lying around after my other PCs are finally working again.

It has an Intel Core i7 2600, 16GB non ECC RAM and runs in a Sharkoon T9 Value.

I would like to throw in some drives and make it accessible as a server. If possible I would also like to be able to have some kind of messaging/notification system (it would also work if you had to put a file in someone's personal folder).

I would like to know if this would work and which OS I would have to use (Freenas is favourable, because I have some experience with it.).

Sayonara!
