okay so this started last night I had to restart my pc for some updates so I did. when the pc restarted there was no audio it said "Windows could not start Audio service". After reading on a few forums and trying to fix it i went to sleep.

This morning I realised something is also wrong with my control panel. I can access something like fonts but to uninstall a program or open windows update it just hangs there not doing anything. forums said it was a corrupted file so I tried to do the sfc /scannow I've done it before but now it just hangs as well, it does say its beginning the scan. I then restored the system to a file 2 days ago.

The Control Panel and the problems with opening parts of it is still happening. I have just done a restore to a file 4 days ago to see if it fixes the problem. But has anyone had this before? It's bloody annoying.

I'm running windows 8.1 pro and mostly install all updates.

have you tried only on front io or also at the back. if only on front io and it work at the back it's a connection problem on the mobo. if the two don't work try to reinstall the audio driver. lastly if nothing work simply fresh install a new os

the speaker was connected at the back but the front was working fine before according to what I've read and seen its something to do with corrupted files it might have to do with the latest update

honestly I think the easiest way to fix that is either to use the rollback option (but i don't know if it'll work for corrupted file) or simply uninstall reinstall windows

I rolled it back its fixed now but these corrupted files are still on my system i guess the update did something or marked them as corrupted somehow

Try repair the component store using

DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /RESTOREHEALTH

If it finds and fixes things, try doing SFC again after that and see if it's able to fix the corrupt files.

I'd attempt to do a rollback to a later date first , then maybe run windows updates.

Do a Refresh, if all else fails.

SHIFT + RESTART to get to troubleshooter.

Refresh will reload windows , remove all programs, and apps ... but will keep all your personal data within the system.

Now there is always a chance that with the corrupted files that windows may not allow you to do either, then at that point you would have to preform a " Reset " as it's labeled on windows 8.1

- Format / Reload -
