Xbox 360 Wireless controller + AC 3 = wtf

During use of my xbox 360 wireless controller, seemingly randomly i will lose control and it will hold down forward and right trigger endlessly. 
Using the very same wireless receiver that was featured in an episode of Handy tech under $100, and a standard, non-scuff xbox 360 controller. 
Even when i take the batteries out of the controller, the buttons are still being pressed; I have to uninstall the drivers and reboot before it stops. 

Any ideas?

Windows 8 is not supported with that.

There is a windows 7 official driver for the controller which I found helped with issues. It's buried deep in there site and they don't officially support it any more. However, it does work on windows 8 and tech preview for 10 for that matter. I'm on my work PC now, if I remember when I get home I'll post you a link to the page or just chuck it on my Google Drive.

Have you tried it while plugged into the system by USB?

Try downloading the windows 7 driver from http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-gb/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows it will install on windows 8. It gives you the little on screen pop up when you press the Xbox button and increases compatibility. I use a wired 360 controller but my house mate has a wireless one and found it almost un-usable without this.

I unfortunately don't have a plug and play kit for my controller.
