970 from 780?

Guest

As you can see from my signature, my PC is a beast. I can literally get a 970 from the 780 whilst breaking even. Is it worth it? DX12 is the main reason why I would do it.

If you're not losing any money, than I'd say it's worth it. Having a card that is slightly better in performance, cooler, quieter, and overclocks quite well.

Wanna hang out with me and people like @Theslsamg, @ Ssoele, @BENTHEREN, @Lanoi, @Whiskers, @_ASSASSIN_, @Looney, @WunderWuffle, and @nsyedhasan. Well.... Check out: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/48484-unofficial-linustechtips-teamschnitzel-server-teamspeak/

If all you have is pros, why would you even ask for input before pulling the trigger? I'd do it.

I should be studying.

In a way, it is if you're breaking even, since you get lower power consumption plus more performance and overclocking potential. Is it worth all the trouble? To me, definitely.

No, not a massive difference in performance, i would however trade up to a 980 because that's a big enough jump to feel the difference. That is if you must change your system because its not meeting your current needs, i too have a 780 but im waiting until it struggles with AAA titles @ ultra 1920x1080 and i don't see that happening just yet.

Maybe find something else to buy if you're hellbent on some retail therapy :)

I plan to SLI when the 970's drop, a 980 is just too much for now.

Yeah, just need to sell the 780. Got one person in Canada with no posts or anything who wanted to buy it xD

970 is faster, consumes less power and has more VRAM (even with the whole debacle).

You should do it while the 780 resale values are still high. I have no idea why people are buying 780s for $300+ on ebay when the 970 is cheaper and faster so sell it ASAP!

The answer to your question is simple, SLI and NVIDIA products holding damn good resale value.

If you want to SLI your 780, you're not going to buy a 970. The GTX 780 launched at $699, price-dropped to $499 and routinely sells for $350 used even still, while the R9 290X launched at $550, rose to $700+ during the mining craze, plummeted to $300, went down to $270 and is now around $330 and sells for $250 used.

Main Rig: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) KLEVV CRAS XR RGB DDR4-3600 | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX | Storage: 512GB SKHynix PC401, 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus, 2x Micron 1100 256GB SATA SSDs | GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra 10GB | Cooling: ThermalTake Floe 280mm w/ be quiet! Pure Wings 3 | Case: Sliger SM580 (Black) | PSU: Lian Li SP 850W

Server: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) Crucial DDR4 Pro | Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS AC-HES | Storage: 128GB Samsung PM961, 4TB Seagate IronWolf | GPU: AMD FirePro WX 3100 | Cooling: EK-AIO Elite 360 D-RGB | Case: Corsair 5000D Airflow (White) | PSU: Seasonic Focus GM-850

I would rather SLI 970 cards due to DX12 supposedly combining RAM.

As would I, but of course others may not want to go through the possible hassle of swapping their 780 for a 970 or may want a more substantial upgrade.

Yeah I open my PC up several times per day, just to make sure that I can't orient my fans differently or run a PSU cable in a better spot so it's no problem at all for me.

If you are breaking even, then you should do it in a instant. It would be even better if you SLI the 970s
