Hello everyone!

I'm looking for a good (low price/noticeable improvement) CPU/mobo upgrade.
I'm currently running an AMD Athlon II X4 645 on a Gigabyte GA-880GM. Is it worth buying a FX-8300 for this socket, or should I consider buying a CPU of a newer generation along with a new motherboard?
I use my PC for gaming, video/audio editing, CG (Blender3D) as well as for some engineering software (SolidWorks, MatLab...).
I don't need a PC to run GTA V in a gazillion FPS (although I'm probably gonna upgrade a dozen more times until it's released *ba-dum-tss*), but the more power the better! :)
Any advice is welcome, thanks in advance! :)

My other specs are:

8GB DDR3 RAM
1TB WD Blue
Gigabyte nVidia GTX 650 OC 2GB GDDR5
Generic 9 year old medium tower PC case with a 450W PS :)

Honestly, if you're 3D modeling, an i7 or Xeon could be nice. Here are some options assuming you aren't overclocking:

i7 Option: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KQYL4D

The i7 has better single-threaded performance. The cores are quite a bit faster than the Xeon; so it would be better for gaming, and slightly faster than the Xeon I'm recommending for the next option.

Xeon Option: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Y4vhFT

Not as fast cores as the i7, but it will do the job for gaming, and will do perfectly fine for heavily 3D modeling.

i5 Option in case you want cheaper, and you're not heavily 3D modeling: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/McqNvK

As said above.

I haven't checked myself, but you may need a new PSU for this.

PC and Peripherals:

Intel Core i3 4150 @3.5GHz - ASRock H97M Anniversary - Kingston Fury HyperX Black 8GB DDR3 @1866MHz - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 G1 Gaming 2GB GDDR5 - EVGA 500W 80+ Certified - WD Caviar Blue 1TB - WD Caviar Blue 160GB - Lian Li PC-50 - Linux Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS - Acer P221w 21.5" 1680x1050 60Hz - Kingston Fury HyperX Clouds - Razer Deathadder 3.5G - CM Storm Quickfire Rapid w/ Cherry MX Blues
