Backup Questions

So I'm running a plex server that is sharing my main system's psu (for drives) and it doesn't have a ups, and if the power goes out while I'm away, I wont be able to view my media. So I decided to use my laptop as a backup server because of its battery, and I need a way to have the folders where my media is store to be the same through backups or something. I am running my main server on FreeNAS and my backup on Win8 I was looking at crashplan but the FreeNAS version looks hard to setup.
