I wanna watch YouTube videos in my schools commons before school, but they firewalled YouTube. Any way around this?

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

Try the old 'https' trick:

- Manually type in: https://www.youtube.com/. Make sure you have the 's'.

If you want, you could download a VPN and get around the firewall that way.

Or use a proxy.

A lot of schools will get you in trouble if they find out you're trying to circumvent their restrictions, just FYI.

Hack schools pc's or servers.

BTW, proxys?

I do sincerely hope you're not serious.

OP: just to be clear, don't get in legal trouble for hacking while trying to watch youtube videos

In USA you really can get into trouble for hacking schools systems? In my school I could easly open a wifi hotspot with a virus in it and nobody would know it was me. IT "techincans" at my school don't where to find fonts in Word 2012

I don't even want to quote that for being such a broken sentence... But let me go ahead and answer the blanket statement "Can you get into trouble for hacking (insert absolutely anything here)?"

Yes. You can, and it will be a huge mark on any personal record for things like getting accepted into a University or future job positions.

Well sorry, my apoligies. I meant like hack into pc's download viruses, etc. Atleast for my school all they worry is that you have ok grades, nothing else really matters.

Now it does depend on what you mean hacking, if you do like i said, and type ip in the url that should be fine and dandy, i would not mess with stuff like viruses. though i would check for local proxies and disable them and that isn't hacking either. but i do feel like we are getting sidetracked.

Why the trouble, they might just filter your internet and just allow like 20 websites to be accessed and nothing else

I used to work IT in a school, have a number of friends who still do. If you find a way round it and get caught best case scenario you get banned from using school's PCs, wifi  etc for the rest of term, and if you have an assignment that requires you to use them, then you fail that assignment, and they block your bypass route to stop the next person. I've seen a case where a student hacked a school server and was expelled on the spot with no case for appeal.

Generally speaking school IT infrastructure is for school work, YouTube is often blocked because the school has 100s, 1000s of students and not enough internet bandwidth to cope with all of them streaming video (some schools have plenty of bandwidth and block it anyway).

If you must watch YouTube bring your own device with mobile data and watch it on that.
