7990 vs 290x?

Hi, which one is better? because I need a new one:D

I'll be playing at 1080 and 1440p on ultra, then get another one and get cf.

they actually perform almost identically. but one is a crossfire card so expect compatability issues at times. plus the 7990 is more expensive by far (in the uk)

so the 290x is the better buy and better card

But as you may know,,...scaling isn't always 100%, sometimes games don't even use above 50% of the 7990.

This is where the dedicated performance of the 290 would win hands down... consistency.

 

But your right, the 7990 with 90-100% scaling would be quite a tad faster than the 290X, possible multiplied 1.4x the 290X, but scaling 'hardly' works like that. probably equal to the 290x Just losing by a fraction when scaling works well.

If you're getting a really great price on the HD 7990 I can see where it might be pretty attractive. I'd be very suspicious of eBay 7990's due to their attractiveness for a mining rig back then. And just make sure your PC is ready to cope with it:

The 7990 should perform a bit better, if at all. 290x gets my vote because you'd have quadfire with 2 7990s and the scaling is ... meh.
