So my laptop is a Dell XPS M1710 yes its old, now this laptop i got from a freind saying its useless and its crap i got it put back to factory and cleaned it out and i ran like a dream until recently for instance modded minecraft i hit 300+ FPS and its a really good laptop currently my cpu is running 26/26 core 1 and 2 my GPU is running 39 C my chipset 30 and my memory 31 -info from 18K fan gui-

Hardware

200GB hitachi HDD

2x 1Gb sticks of DDR2 1024 Mb (667Mhz)

BIOS Version Revision A07

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX

Sigmatel 9200 Audio

Through the onboard system diagnostics i had 2 error codes 1 with my graphics card that i fixed and the other with my HDD test i believe Read/Write Error i may run the test again to be sure

Should i invest in getting this laptop repaired? is there ways i can try to speed it up?

I suggest getting an SSD, since your HDD is getting errors anyways, it will be a huge boost.

Also a RAM upgrade would be extremely useful if it fits in your budget.

But would an SSD Be Compatible i no of an additional SATA to PATA replacement for my optical drive and i was considering bumping up to 4GB of ram 2x 2gb

There is some good PATA SSDs

But, just letting you know, you're going to be spending $150 or so on upgrading this. You COULD just spend $400 for a MUCH better bran new notebook that will blow the lid off the one you have.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Couldn't you replace the hard drive with the SSD? IDE to SATA would be slow as hell.

that is true i could in theory move the HDD from The main Drive cage to the additional and run the HDD off the adapter but what about data transfer?

would i really need this the addition changes PATA to SATA

Reason why I didn't suggest a adapter, added latency.

Not to include, with older software and hardware, adding more adapters and such might do no tellin what with drivers and such.

this will definantly speed up your computer and clear all error messages from the hard drive read/ write codes.
