Decent APU?

Hello

I was having a look a some cheaper AMD A-series APUs and found the A8-5500. It is a quad core clocked at 3.20 GHz, I couldn't find many more specs, so please tell me mooarrr (is it good?).

Thanks

well...it would be actually better if you got a separate, CPU and GPU.

Well, more for low-end gaming and seriously light workloads other than that. I don't mind budget so much, as I already have a (hopefully) good price.

I'm going to be using a separate graphics card as well.

I'd recommend the Kabini 5350.

Well, something like an x4 860k + R7 250x (or better yet -- at least a 260x) would be MUCH better, so...your budget/intentions are kind of important

I'm going to be using a separate graphics card as well.

Don't get an APU then.

My 10 year old Athlon 64 3000+ can still handle light gaming (like TF2), and general use (web browsing and stuff)....so your question is vague, and doesn't have an answer.

If you're going to be using a separate GPU, then there is no reason to get an APU.

I have an A10-7850k. Best APU on the market if you can afford the little extra.

Long time Linus fan with too many different forums to keep track of LTT's.

Okay, if I'm going to use a CPU, then would you suggest an Athlon X4 860K? I guess my budget is really under 100/90 USD.

What hardware do you already have that you can reuse? And what's your total budget?

So, let me go into the detail I guess I really should have mentioned before. I'm building an entirely new PC for under 400/450 USD, so no old hardware and pretty limited budget.

I have an A8 5600k, and it does OK with stuff like GTA 4, Hitman Absolution, Payday 2, and Farcry 4 on medium settings.

I'd say it's great for what you're looking for. Also stays pretty cool with a 212 evo.

Use Linux until you can afford windows.

And if you need to get it down cheaper, then you can get away with a 500w 80+ (non bronze unit for $20~ less).

Okay, but I was able to find that (more powerful-ish?) Athlon for quite a bit cheaper.

It's really great when people use PCPartPicker to give me these lists, but all the parts are cheaper and easier to get where I am, and I have to wait almost a month or more for the parts (which is sometimes okay). Thanks though.

Yup.

Although the Athlon is gonna have a pretty bad integrated GPU, if you need that. I'm not even sure it has one.. O.o

Yeah

I selected the Athlon purely because I sort of came to the conclusion that an APU with a GPU was a bit stupid (mainly because of this thread). I actually have a

pretty powerful GPU on my list so I want a decent CPU to go with it.

hmmmm personally not sure, some people take them from school computers sometimes, or they personally purchase keys.  I bought one from there, works fine, just follow the instructions, and only get it from a verified seller.

plus its better than spending 100 $ on a windows key.......at most if the seller does mess with you, you will only lose like 10$ not like 50$. However hadn't experienced that
