So i have an old pc with a Q6600 2.4GHz/HD 5770 1GB/4GB DDR2-800. I plan to upgrade about everything, but i was wondering if it'd be worth keeping the 5770 for a while until i can get a decent GPU in the future. My planned build was an i5 4460/8GB DDR3-1600 with the 5770 being reused, and to possibly get a 280 in the future.

My question is whether it's worth keeping the HD 5770 for a while or to just get the 280 with my build. Would a 5770 still handle games okay in 1080p or just give me poor performance?

It will give you rather poor performance indeed.

But it will still work; so why not keep it until you can get a 280.  Also, I never throw out things; all my previous GPUs are too old to command any real money; I just love having a historical record of all the cool shit I've bought over the years.

5770 can play 1080p World of Tanks with everything but lighting Maxed out and get 40fps.

Still capable for some lighter titles.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

It's still good, especially since all that hardware still has plenty of life out of it. What do you plan to do with all the other hardware, out of curiosity? Don't throw anything out, sell it.

this is probably the only place i'll hang out anymore: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/274320-the-long-awaited-car-thread/

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D
