Raspberry Pi Emulator set up

Hey everyone, this is my first post sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question, and if it is could you point me in the right direction?

I'm thinking about getting a Raspberry Pi and using it for a old school gaming system (Sega, NES, SNES, N64, and some newer-ish stuff like PSX and PS2) does anyone have experience with setting up a Raspberry Pi to emulate games? If so I have some questions that I hope someone can answer.

1. What Linux distribution works the best for a setup like this?

2. What is a good emulator?

3. What are some good sites to get roms?

4. What would do you suggest for a controller?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

I haven't myself gotten one running, but my friend has. Hes currently using Retropie (http://blog.petrockblock.com/) For controllers try something like this for SNES or old games http://www.amazon.com/Classic-USB-Super-Nintendo-Controller-PC/dp/B002JAU20W and for other games an xbox controller with an adapter would be fine for it.

Another note, Im not sure how the new raspberry pi works with the retropie and the controller.
