Yeah, you can dial up the multiplier up to 42 if you want to, and you can change bclk if that isn't enough. However you can only do it if you have a p67, z68 or z77 motherboard. To overclock just go into the bios, disable turbo boost, set the multiplier and bclk to your desired values and test the system for stability. If it's not stable and you want more, you can raise the voltage by 0.05. Don't go over 1.3 volts though. And make sure you have adequate cooling, the stock cooler won't cut it.

-edit-

btw @WcDarkSky please remember to follow your topics ;)

@KayTees @Kobrastachka actually only 3rd and 4th gen cpus need the k at the end to be overclockable at all. Sandy bridge non-k cpus were partially locked as opposed to completely locked. The 2600 goes up to 42.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

No because intel wants to charge more for a k at the end of its name. In other words you cant oc because you have a i7 2600 and not a 2600k, only ks can oc

I didn't know that, I have a i7-2700k that I overclocked to 4.2GHz and I think it's 2nd Gen?

yeah, those go even higher (to 59 I believe?), k cpus were still fully unlocked but non-k ones still had a little headroom. Basically what you have now coule be obtained from a cheaper 2600

Well sure, it's just that if you sit at 4.2 you could have achieved that with less :) as I said 2700ks go up to 5.9ghz without touching the bclk (if you can cool it of course).

Hmmm. Swap out my 4690k and then replace it with my 2700k then OC? :D
