I am very open to overclocking but am only running 1 1080p monitor, is shortening the log of my card worth for a few extra fps @1080p

I know a 970 will walk all over 1080p

Depends. 120Hz? I'm certain. 60Hz? I doubt a single 970 would be hard pressed for 60fps at 1080p, except in terribly coded games like AC:Unity.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

i have a overclock profile for my 970 which is 1500MHz core and 7806 on the memory and only use it when benchmarking lol otherwise i don't see the need it gives me about 8-10 more FPS. so the real question is do you need an extra 8-10 more FPS? is it worth it to you ? it will degrade the card faster but how much know one know's

If you think you're overclocking because you "need to," you're doing it for the wrong reasons. Even at 2560x1440, overclocking a GTX 970 isn't going to make the difference between playable and unplayable. Overclocking is something to do for fun, primarily. Even in the extreme example of a poorly-coded game, such as AC: Unity, an overclocked GTX 970 is not likely to be noticeably better than a stock one.

That being said, provided your temperatures and voltage are both within the safe limits, there's not much reason to think the life of your card would be shortened in any meaningful way.

Overclocking can be a big performance gain over stock. A well OC'd 970 can match a stock 980 in performance for almost half the price. Definitely worth it imo. Not to mention the extra bench marking points you score!!  :D

You can't be serious.  Hyperthreading is a market joke?
