Quick crossfire question:

Go to solution Solved by thekeemo,

Yup feature to reduce idle power

Hey everyone, so I just installed my second 290x, testing it out with DA:I (which I'm lead to believe scaled very well with crossfire).

Temperature on the top card is around 80 degrees, so not too bad (though quite noisy), but whenever I minimise the game to check afterburner the bottom card seems to drop in core clock rapidly, but I cannot tell if it is dropping within the game. It does sit at the 1050mhz stock clock for prolonged periods of time with seemingly no hitches, but I just wanted to double check to make sure that was a feature?

and don't quote me on this but at idle and cards barely consume as much as a nvidia card

I've got a little power measuring thing that is plugged into the wall - I'm doing a mini-review on the 290x crossfire setup I have. Initial finding re power consumption: people massively overestimate how much power these things use...

At idle I get less than 140 Watts from the wall from my whole system with 2 290s.

Mine rarely seems to go above 100W from the wall with 2 290xs, but my CPU is a stock 4670k.

My 4970k is at 4.5Ghz and I've also got a bunch of HDDs and 2 SSDs installed, might be why I'm consuming a bit more than you.
