Nexus s rom/root/update

So i want to make my nexus s faster, i have been told by users that i can make it usable for basic tasks, because right now it is slow as ballz.

 

I have never rooted, installed a custom rom or launcher, nor used android much. So i would like to know, what should i use, and how should i go about it. I should say that this nexus s is not unlocked(as far as i know) and i would like to maintain the telus compatibility.

Plug in phone. Settings > Developer Options > Enable USB Debuggng, then run that toolkit and press 'Unlock Bootloader.' That should unlock it on its own, do note that it'll wipe the device (back to factory.) From there, you can flash a custom recovery (I recommend TWRP), which is on the second column, then use that to flash a custom ROM. Alternatively, you could follow this guide. If you need help, I'll respond to this thrad; but delayed, as I won't be home until tomorrow.
