My board Gigabyte z97x gaming 5 is driving me nuts with the software and fan controls. I am looking for ideas for a replacement leaning toward Asus. Maybe a Z97 Pro gamer? What do you think?

Your essentially throwing money into the fire and watching it burn.

There's zero need to change your current board at all, look at 3rd party fan control apps or even just get a front panel controller.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

I just got the asus z97 pro gamer for my build a month ago and I confirm it's great.

Mouse driven Bios with fan speed management is awesome.

Sound drivers are top notch.

And there is a nice red Led trip that run on the bottom left.

All in all a great mobo.

Now you could get most of the same with a cheaper one. But if you have a windowed case you might as well have a nice one :)

Yeah I know im throwing money into the fire. BUT. I really am a fan of Asus I don't know why I bought this Gigabyte board. Don't get me wrong for the most part this board is great. It runs fast and it is stable but man I hate something that seems so simple being such a big pain in the rear.

Well as long as your aware and happy then its your choice. There's certainly cheaper options available to resolve your issue however I do understand your POV entirely. I was given a PS3 by my brother and I turned it down, Xbox or no box (of course its the other way around now)

Gigabyte boards are awesome. They are stable and can run extremely fast. for me its a UEFI Issue. The gigabyte boards UEFI dives me crazy. So I switched to a board with a UEFI that I liked more.
