Fan Setup

Go to solution Solved by GuruMeditationError,

I'm think I'm just going to keep the two fans that comes with the Corsair cooler (They are PWM) and buy two new 120mm fans for the buttom. But you can't really see them so there is no need for them to be LED.

To be honest, unless you really want LED I'd say absolutely do that (rather than replacing the ones that are there, they're fine) If you can, get the same make and model to add to the case, for the acoustic advantage (of them cancelling out some of each other's sound).

Hi!

So I bought parts for my new computer but I'm not sure how to do the fan setup. These are the parts:

Case - Phanteks Enthoo Luxe

Motherboard - Asus Maximus VII Hero

CPU - Intel Core i7 4790K

Cooler - Corsair H110i GT

GPU - Asus GeForce Strix GTX 980

RAM - HyperX Fury DDR3 1866MHz 16GB

SSD - Samsung 850 EVO 120GB

HDD - WD Black 1TB

PSU - Corsair AX 760

Fans I can have:

Front - 1x200mm(Included)/2x140mm/2x120mm

Top - The H110i GT is going there, but should it take air in or push it out?

Rear - 1x140mm(Included)/1x120mm

Buttom - 1x140mm/2x120mm

If I wanted some nice LED fans, which ones should I get and where should I place them for it to look nice and work the best? I'm thinking about having 1x200mm at the front (taking air in), the H110i GT at the top (pushing air out), 1x140mm in the back (pushing air out) and 2x120mm at the buttom taking air in. What fans should I get for this setup? Thank you!

Hi!

The placements sound fine, but unless you're overclocking I'd say stick to multiple 120mm fans, basically because anything larger is inherently going to be loud. 140mm and 200mm fans are more efficient than 120mm fans but they're louder.

Two fans of the same make and type next to each other can cancel out some of the sound each one produces (the sound waves / vibration), so you get better performance per decibel. Equally two fans of different types can have sound signatures that clash and create really bad noise (but that's very rare).

I use 120mm Aerocool, Dead Silent fans and they have LED versions:

They're almost certainly the most efficient for the type of thing you're looking for (however they're not PWM, so do bare that in mind). Also, I don't tend to recommend the 140mm variant of these fans because as I say 140mm fans and over are just inherently louder.

Having said that I do have a blue LED Cooler Master MegaFlow in the top of my Antec 900 (that I swapped for the stock Antec fan for quieter performance) but I keep it dialed right down to its slowest to limit the noise it produces. (they make red and blue LED versions).

Cooler Master have some LED 120mm fans you might want to look at also: http://eu.coolermaster.com/uk/product/Lines/case-fan/

They're not as efficient as the 120mm Aerocools and again, they're not PWM, but they're close and you might like them better.

Edit: @Liin Actually just spotted this. They do blue and red LED 120mm PWM fans with really good looking spec.s... http://eu.coolermaster.com/uk/cooling/case-fan/jetflo-120/

As you can probably tell from the parts that I chose I would like some Red LED fans because I think it would look great in the build, but I would rather want them to be PWM fans, so I guess I'm just going with some AF120s in the buttom.

There is a red LED Cooler Master JetFlow 120 http://eu.coolermaster.com/uk/cooling/case-fan/jetflo-120/but I've not personally tried them. Cooler Master are a pretty good brand and the MegaFlow I've got is excellent and the specs for the JetFlow look great.

Having said that, I'm not sure what the tone / sound signature of those is like. Some fans are very very quiet but they can have a shrill tone and that's something always to look out for (if noisy fans bother you).

Anyways, hope that help (also welcome to the forum). ;0)
