My EVGA GTX 780 thermal paste

So i noticed my idle around 52C on my 6GB EVGA 780. 6 months ago at purchase it was idling in the low 30s so i decided to take of the cooler and have a look. Turns out the thermal paste was almost rock hard and there was none in the middle. I put on new paste and voila idle below 40. I really like the card but am wondering how is it the thermal paste was done so poorly on a 600$ card? And for anyone else with high temps on their EVGA 780 this may help alot.

Linus made a viceo about it, they can get a bad apply once in a while. You were just unlucky.

Dont have a 780, but I agree on such a card like that, a better paste should have been used.

But glad you got it fixed.

i got my idles at 20 degrees for each card but of course they are hooked up to an excessive loop lol

 

the TIM on my two 780s was fine though
