Can I get some feedback on my reevaluated build. I took my dream build PC which was about... 4,200 USD, and brought it down to a more reasonable price but yet the same performance I would otherwise get. Thanks to a few people on here and friends, I was talked into bringing it to a better fee, instead of having a bunch of flashy, ridiculously costing pieces. So here is what I got.

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor  ($394.98 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI X99S SLI Plus ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard  ($201.98 @ Newegg)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB ACX 2.0 Video Card  ($552.98 @ Newegg)
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case  ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $1913.93

This build will be used for gaming, and live streaming. I will be playing at 1080p, and streaming at 1080p if possible. I also have extra HDD's laying around so I have no need to purchase any.

1) No HDD?

2) The most efficient gpu config is 2-way. Just a heads up.

2) If you still plan on 3-way, I'd recommend going with a PSU of ~1000W or above

Aside from those 3 points, it looks good.

id go with the 5820k over the 5930k. The 5930k doesn't off much better performance over it seeing as they both have 6 cores. Also this PSU is on sale right now for only $110 and offers the same wattage. Looks ok otherwise. If you want better overclocks on a 980 id go with the windforce gaming one for a little extra http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=102009&vpn=GV-N980G1%20GAMING-4GD&manufacture=Gigabyte&promoid=1260

The entire build in 3-way SLI pulls under 800, but you are probably right, a 1,000W wouldn't be a bad idea.

Sure 850W might be enough to power the system, but depending on your unit, you may not get all the necessary connectors to power the card.

What was it again that you wanted to do with your PC?

Because I'm 99% sure that build is wrong.

You're right about the CPU. Edited. I picked this GTX 980 because I liked the look more honestly. The clock speeds don't vary too much between GPU's so I believe I will be sticking with this one.

Gaming, with future 3-way SLI.

How is the build wrong? Lol

I'll explain:

  1. The 5930k is a complete waste of money. It'll perform a bit better than the 4690k (or maybe even a 4790k), while costing A LOT more. And it also increases RAM and Mobo costs as well, for no tangible performance boost.
  2. Raijintek Triton. Newegg has it for the same price as the h100i. Difference being, the Triton has much better performance, while also having a much better look, that can match virtually any system in existence.
  3. You don't get 16gbs for gaming. You get 8gb. Unless you wanna waste money. In that case, why not give it to me instead?
  4. 3-way SLI is actually WORSE than 2-way. Yes, surely the average FPS will increase, but your minimum FPS will take some crazy dips. Not to mention the stuttering. Check out Linus' video about it.

Btw, I hope you have a 4k tv. Because anything lower, and you are looking at SLI/single gtx 970.

I changed it to a 5820k, and you seem to not recognize that the build has DDR4. Something 4690k does not support. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Exactly my point. Stick to the 4X90k + DDR3. There's no performance gain by going with the 5820k and DDR 4 (for gaming). The only difference you'll see is the cost, nothing else.

Personally I see this as a giant waste of money, but if you want 3-way 980 SLI then go for it.

Going with a z97 setup will see pretty much 0 loss in performance.

i5-4690k with an OC will see the same gaming performance as a 4790k or 5820k for that matter.

8gb vs 16gb will see the same gaming performance.

What resolution are you gaming on?

1080p = single gtx 980

1440p = single gtx 980 maybe 2.

4k = don't waste your money on a 980 sli build. Wait for the newer generation cards to be released.

I've failed to mention that I will be live streaming as I play games. The DDR4 will help with this in so many ways. I apologize for my lack of information. Updating the thread now.

No, no, no. Even if you are streaming, the 5820k + DDR4 is STILL a waste. Especially since all the streaming won't be handled by the cpu ANYWAY (ty nvidia shadowplay).

With this info you gave me, the i7-4790k is a much better choice than the 4690k. But whatever you do, don't get the X99 platform.

Hmm. I will look more into it. Thank you for your feedback. I perhaps read something wrong somewhere down the line.

After reviewing prices.

The i7-4790k is only 50 bucks cheaper than the 5820k. To my knowledge, streaming is a little CPU intensive. So the 2 extra cores and threads is worth the extra 50 dollars to me. Not a huge difference in price here.

The 8GB DDR4 2400 is the exact same price as 8GB DDR3 2400.

As far as Motherboards go, again, price difference, I'd either end up paying more or the same.

On top of doing live streaming, recording is going to be done. I don't exactly NEED the 16GB ram, but it will be nice for when I do do some video editing for my youtube channel.
