Hello LTT

I'm in need of help.

1.

I'm trying to recover data for my sister from her old laptop.

I have taken out the HDD and put in a dock. I managed to move most of her files, but suddenly the transfer froze and it seemed like all of my usb ports crashed, everything kinda got replugged and I haven't been able to do anything with the HDD since.

I have run the Hitachi DFT short and long test (it's a Hitachi drive) and it passed the short test, but it failed the long test:

What should I do and will I be able to save the data?

2.

I also have problems with her external HDD, WD My Passport Ultra.

When I connect it to my PC it shows up like this (H:):

and explorer seems to freeze, it shows up in devicemanager, but diskmanager won't load when the drive is connected and WD WinDLG doesn't load.

What can be done about this?

16GB RAM

Gigabyte Z87MX-D3H BIOS: F3

GTX 770 2GB

You could give this a try...

I've not tried it but they seem to think it could work.
