After receiving many complaints on Skype about a "helicopter noise" I have finally decided to seek out a resolution. I am using a Mod Mic 4.0 with an Asus Xonar DG. At random times my microphone will produce these strange noises. The problem is likely not the sound card as I have tested the mic with on board audio and an older creative sound card with the same issue. What could possibly be the problem?

I've had this so many times.

In my case it was noise out of electric net (it simply doesn't have ground in my house), so I switched my mic to the front input of fractal R4. It solved all this stuff.

But now I'm using a simple XLR mic, connected via berh amp - no noise, perfect sound.

So, try connecting it to the front panel (if it's connected via 'hd audio' cable).

Thanks for the advice. I connected the front panel audio to my sound card and am now using the front mic port. I'll report back by tomorrow afternoon or earlier on the findings. :)

You can put your system under load and use 'listen from this device' in audio settings. It will give u a pretty much all about mic.

After about 5 minutes of running prime95 and furmark at the same time the noise was not replicated. I'll still wait till tomorrow to confirm whether the problem is fixed. Thanks again!

your mic gain might be too high, causing audio clippings which might lead to even more problems.

Unfortunately the noise is still randomly occurring. The noise occurs even when doing simple tasks such as watching YouTube.

I do have the Microphone Boost enabled on the Xonar DG however the noise occurred on all audio devices. Also disabling the boost is not an option as I can not be heard without it.

Then, it's time to try some XLR mic's with mic amp or mixer.

The cheapest option will cost about 90-100$. Or, try 'blue microphones yeti' (usb mic).

I believe, mixer and xlr mic will solve this issue. As for me, usb mic also helped, but I prefer XLR stuff with behringer's amp.

How long have you had the mic? If you can still return it, it might be best to. If you cant return it you might try a cheap usb sound card. You can get one for under $10. Also, try out Antlion tech support. Never hurts to ask them why their product isnt working properly :)

PC Audio Setup = Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro 80 ohm and Sennheiser pc37x (also for xbox) hooked up to Schiit Fulla 3

No need to spend that much $ to fix the problem

Great point since everything does lead back to the mic. I have sent in a tech support request, hopefully they can help. I did purchase the Mic within the past year so it is still under warranty.
