Hello there LTT Community!

So recently I watched the new series Linus and Luke did called "Scrapbook Wars" which inspired me to go check up on Craigslist for computer parts. Where I live, we aren't too tech savvy, so there weren't many computer parts. However, I did happen to stubble upon an Nvidia  GTX 670 FTW Edition GPU card for $175 which would be AWESOME for my build opposed to a GTX 750 Ti (yes, I have a tight budget).

My only problem, obviously, is the fact that it is a used computer part. Although I am not too worried that there will actually be problems with it, I wanted to get some advice when going into a purchase like this. I have never bought a single computer part used, all new. According to the owner, it is in "Like New" condition, which I can only take his/her word for. I don't have any kind of "test computer" to test out the GPU on site, so I'll pretty much have to buy it and wait and see if it performs as it says it will.

So should I be worried or am I just overly paranoid of making such a purchase. My biggest concerns are 1) Will it perform as well as a new one, 2) Will there be any driver failures, and 3) Will there be any problems that happen once I put it in my computer overtime and/or after building it. I would love to hear of any stories of anyone who HAS purchased a used part. How did you go into it and what did you ask the owner upon purchasing it?

Thanks!

~ToTT

(Side Question: Would an AMD 8350 or 6300 bottleneck the GPU at all?)

Eh, that's not the cheapest I've seen them.

I'd just get an HD 7950 or HD 7970/R9 280 or R9 280X from reddit's r/hardwareswap for $120-$160. And yes, mining cards should be fine. Around there BTW, the GTX 670 usually goes for $125-$160.

If you still want to buy from this person, just ask to see it in a system running something like Unigine Valley. If they says no, there's likely something wrong.

And an FX 8350 shouldn't bottleneck at all, neither should an FX 6300 too much for that matter.

everyone will say your 6300 will bottleneck, but more then likely you will be fine, and for the price its fine.

( go ahead and tear me apart, but my brother used his 6300 with my 7970 to play far cry 4. and guess what? did almost the exact same as my I5 at 4.4ghz and 7970)

I love used hardware! got a 7950 for 140 ( a WHILE ago) and a 7970 not to long ago for 130. thats insaine hardware for the price, and a single card could max out any game. for 130$?!? its a steal. I have a hard drive sitting in my closet from 2004, and it still works. graphics cards and cpus last forever(not literal) just know old systems from late 90s in my basement still work last time I checked

It depends from title to title, but it won't be an issue for the most part.

yeah. Just wanted to clear that up. Its not the best cpu, but it also isnt the most expesnive. the fact that my bro got his, mobo, and 8 gigs of ram for less then just my I5 cpu, Its a steal. worth giving up a few frames in a few games.

some people on this forum act as if its the devils chip. Seen threads where 5+ people hopped on the fx hate bandwagon.

OP, pick up a cheap board that overclocks if you can. that chip at 4.2-4.4 ghz is nice
