Hi guys,

Just got a Pi 2, looking to use it as a media centre type ordeal hopefully streaming films from my PC upstairs to the TV. Couple of things;

I put a 64GB Micro SD card in, along with a keyboard/mouse, 2A Samsung Tab charger and HDMI cable and the red + green LED were stuck on and I couldn't get anything to output. The SD card was formatted, any help?

Also, what's the best to use for the stuff I require - I heard OpenELEC is a good OS, or "Kodi" (used to be called XBMC?)

i5 4670k - Z87X-UD3H - EVGA GTX 670 Sig 2 - Samsung 840 Evo 250GB - 8GB Avexir Core White 1600Mhz - Corsair 750D w/ RGB LED Mod & Remote Control - 2x SP120 - 3x Enermax Cluster - 2TB Seagate SSHD - Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 - SuperFlower Leadex Gold 750W

use raspian for best support.  By formatted what did you actually do... Sounds like a poorly written SD card...

Want a good game to play?  Check out Shadowrun: http://store.steampowered.com/app/300550/ (runs on literally any hardware)

I just put it into a card reader using a Micro SD to SD adapter on my PC, formatted it and it was done

It works perfectly in my tablet, no problems whatsoever?

Also, can Raspian do the things I want? (Stream films etc) Ease of use would be very nice indeed :)

IDK but you can't just dump files on an SD card and expect it to boot.  Send me a screenshot of the SD opened on your desktop

Formatted as in formatted(like wiped n' stuff), or as in flashed the os?

Umm, you install the operating system to the SD card. That's the only storage the Pi has. I recommed RaspBMC if you're doing an HTPC. It's what I use on mine.

Hm, sorry guys - I just followed the quick install guide in the booklet and it didn't say I needed to load an OS as such?

I guess I'll install probably OpenELEC or RaspBMC as you guys suggested

Did you just format the SD card and put it in?

You need to make the SD card bootable. Download (I recopmmend Raspbian) and use the program win32diskimager to mount the Rasbian .img to the SD card.

What you actually need to do, instead of formatting, is burn an ISO with the desired OS onto it. I think you can use UNetBootin for that purpose but I'm not 100% sure.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

Yeah, you kind of need an OS, it's not like a Pc, it doesn't have a BIOS and such to boot to

Yeah that's what I did, guess that isn't a great idea haha - I'll try Raspbian then!

You expect a $35 ARM-based, passively-cooled, PC that doesn't even have a case to have the OS preloaded?

It's not passively cooled, it just has open chips lol

Or wait does that fall into the classification of passively cooled...

Raspbian is a general OS and basically an ARM version of Debian Linux. What I recommend for streaming is RaspBMC. That even comes with an easy-to-use installer which lets you burn the OS to the SD card in under a minute.

I didn't expect an OS as such, but something like a basic BIOS or so

Guess I was wrong though lol, I'll install something a bit later and report back!

It's definitely not active cooling. And technically it's just cooled by ambient air, which would be passive cooling.

ARM doesn't need a BIOS - it can just boot from storage right away. But yeah, it's okay to be unfamiliar with it. Even I was surprised that the Pi didn't have any kind of BIOS.... I once tried booting it without an SD card.

I'm sure that the user would have to download and install it manually. Keep in mind that the Pi's only storage is the SD card, which is not included.
