100% ram usage

Go to solution Solved by adorablevb,

Chrome don't take too much. 10% tops. The problem is when I boot my pc, its on 80% right off the bat with system tray applications only open.

Solved it today, went to bios settings and saw something like "Load system fast boot memory" forgot what it is exactly, but I feel like it has the last system config to make the pc boot faster. I disabled it, now I am back to 17% ram usage at desktop. Currently using 4 tabs chrome, uTorrent, BlueStacks, Bandicam @ a total of 41%

Hi, recently I've had this problem where my pc stutters at some point in time, upon checking, I am at 99% ram usage..

Usually I just restart it, and it goes back fine at 20%.

After a few days, when I start my pc, it goes up to 60%+, even when restarting, its the same..

Checked on google, they said use CCleaner. Haven't tried it though.

But right now, as I booted my pc, its at 77% with uTorrent, Soundblaster, RealTek and KillerLan on the system tray. Opened chrome, now its at 82%. Normally this load should be not more than 40% ram usage. When I try to close everything, it doesn't go down..

Specs

  • i5 4460
  • msi b85 g43 gaming
  • 8gb 1333 kingston value ram
  • 120gb crucial m500
  • 1tb wd blue
  • windows 8.1

May I know what causes this? What would be the solution? Thanks!

1. Could the ram speed settings in your BIOS be wrong? Maybe it's clocked way lower than 1333. Or it's clocked higher and it gets confused.

2. Are they 2 sticks or is it 1 stick? If they're 2, have you tried pulling one out and see if it is resolved? Try pulling them both out, putting in the other one. One of your sticks might be malfunctioning.

3. Are your ram dimms (in case of 2 modules) aligned with the dual channel slots? On your Mobo they seem to be paired in two groups.

you seems to have a lot of chrome pages open,, i know if i have to many open on mine its hits 100% ram

if you dont need utorrent i open i would end the task and open when needed

also that board supports up to 1600MHz ram speed thought about upgrading ?

3 tabs were open, but as I have said, even without chrome, at start up, its at 77%

its a single 8gb stick. I was just wondering why its only happening now, I have my pc for more than a month right now, and this just happened 3 days ago. I was thinking its a virus of some sort. Or I don't know. I will try the bios speeds. Thanks

Interesting, this makes me think it's not hardware related.

Try shutting down processies like 'Antimalware Service Executable'.

If that does not work try stopping every 32 bit program one by one.

A friend of mine had huge CPU usage issues lately due to some 32bit programs not using resources properly.

Hey adorablevb,

Google Chrome tends to use a lot of RAM when you have multiple tabs opened. If you want to be on the safe side, I could suggest to check for any memory leaks. Here's an explanation of what it is an how to check for it: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms859408.aspx

Check the RAM usage in the Performance Monitor.

There are way more informations about the usage in general and it show more precise where the problem is.

Check every value for a abnormally high one and then look at the executable that is causing it.

Also if you have a very big orage bar, you may have a memory leak in one of your programms.
