you will ony need 4 sticks of RAM when your are using X79 or X99 which uses Quad Channel RAM

typically most PC will need 8GB of RAM for normal usage but your mileage will differ

mainstream PCs will either use Single Channel or Dual Channel kits

Single channel meaning using only one stick of RAM

Dual channel kit is basically a pair of the same type of RAM of the same CAS,Speed,Capacity and voltage.

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Depends on your motherboard. If you have 2 DIMMs the go with 1 RAM stick. If you have 4, then with 2 (if available) however for capacities of 32GB or more (DDR4 and ECC RAM excluded) 4 sticks are required. As for speeds, 1600mhz cl8 is ideal for DDR3 and CL15 2666mhz is ideal for DDR4 (at the moment).

Yes, but for example, I have a Z97 with dual channel. So should I buy a 2-ram kit of 16gb(2x8gb) and in the future I could upgrade with the same kit?

or would it make any difference if I buy directly a 4-ram kit of 32 gb?

The thing with RAM is that it is always better to go with one single kit. If you want 32 gigs, go for  4x8GB kit. If you go for 2x8 now and say 6 months later you add another 2x8, even though it's the same kit, there are always hardware and firmware revisions with RAMs. It will work for sure, but might not offer the best stability for your computer, especially if you are overclocking. So if you want 32GB, go for the 4x8 kit instead of going 2x8 and then 2x8 after a few months.

So if I have this Z97 with DUAL CHANNEL the the actual question is:

Is it worth buying a 4-ram kit (4x8gb) for CURRENT REQUIREMENTS (with regard to gaming and 3D modeling) or it is enough with 2-ram kit(2x8gb)???

Well the only difference if you buy 32GB now is that you have 32GB NOW rather than later.

My friend who does a lot with 3D design is maxing out 16GB so i suggest going for 32GB :)

I suggest the cheapest 32GB kit you can find as all RAM nowadays is good (corsair has the highest failure rate).

well, 2xGB should be enough, and ive you notice you need more get the other 2x8GB for 4x8GB.
