Im planning a z97 system and it will be my first build. Im going for a $1500ish gaming build and need to know if i should get a wired network card. Are there any advantages of getting one rather than just using the onboard network. Also i was going to get to asus maximus VII hero but decided to get the asus z97 a instead and was wondering if any network cards have gamefirst. I would really like to have gamefirst III but i cant really think of an other way to justify the extra $60 for the VII hero

There's no point really, the onboard stuff is just as good.

EDIT: Also, stuff like game first don't make much of a difference. It can be a nice feature to have in certain cases, but it's not something to sway a decision on a board.

No point in getting a wired network card unless it is for a fiber optic connection or your mobo's ethernet jack fried or is not up to date. (really only needed if doing stuff across your network or if you have a fast internet connection speed where a older computer with a 10/100 ethernet port wouldn't be able to take full advantage of it, or is too slow)

So I wouldn't get one, the only networking card I have is a wireless one, though that was because I couldn't really run an ethernet cable from my router to my PC..

The only reason I'd ever not use the onboard NIC would be if:

1. If I wanted link aggregation or extra ports for one reason or another

2. I had the infrastructure to support it and wanted to upgrade to 10Gbps

3. The onboard NIC died

Fools think they know everything, experts know they know nothing
