Hi, I recently built a new gaming pc and the specs are:

Intel core i5 3570k OC'd to 4.5 Ghz
Evga Gtx 780 (non-acx cooler) no OC
Asrock z77 extreme4 motherboard
Corsair hx850 (plan on adding another 780 in the future)
8gb of ram

I am experiencing a problem where sometimes during games (Tomb Raider for example) I'll be getting nice fps like 120+ but sometimes it'll drop to like 40-50 and the gpu usage also drops to around 50%. I was wondering how I could fix this. Part of me is thinking its a cpu bottleneck but is an i5 at 4.5Ghz really not enough? Thanks in advance.  :)

It's not a CPU bottleneck. Reinstalling drivers may fix the issue.

Heya,

I've had similar issues when i've played Tomb raider. At the time I put it down to the fact I'm in SLI. I don't think the CPU is the bottle neck, it doesn;t seem to require a lot of CPU power for Tomb raider. I just think it is driver optimization on nVidia side.

Thanks for the quick response. Okay i'll try reinstalling the drivers. Is there any specific way I should uninstall them?

If you don't mind, uninstall them and when reinstalling them, check off "clean install." This is assuming you don't mind losing any saved profiles for any games.

I reinstalled the drivers and did a clean install but the problem still persists. I guess i'll just have to live with it like this.

EDIT: The problem is now fixed after restarting my computer. I should've restarted right after reinstalling the drivers.
