with the stock cooler you won't get far in OC, but with something like an CM 212 Evo you could get nice temps

CPU: Xeon 1230v3 - GPU: GTX 770  - SSD: 120GB 840 Evo - HDD: WD Blue 1TB - RAM: Ballistix 8GB - Case: CM N400 - PSU: CX 600M - Cooling: Cooler Master 212 Evo

I am thinking about overclocking a i7 920 2.67 Ghz. I would like to know whether it worths it or not? I am not intending to use any more cooling than the basic so i would like to know what is the limit.

Hi there, I'd like to make my car go faster but I don't want to have to open the bonnet/hood or spend any money on it, please help.

^your question^

Stock cooling is bad, really bad. As above pickup a CM Hyper 212 Evo for around £20/$30 and you'll get way better temps out of an OC, on stock you'll barely push past turbo.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

keep in mind the 920 is an old cpu and it runs hot, hyper 212 evo is good to a point but i wont go over 4.2ghz over that cooler, i had an i7 950@4.5ghz the temps where around 80-85 ish on a h100i,

i switched to an i7 980x got good fans, alos got push pull on the h100i, now i am running my i7 980x @4.7ghz 24/7 with idle of 37c and max of 65-70c

so if you want to oc i say dont go over 1.55vcore :) the temps get really hot then.

i have been overclocking the first gen i7s for 2 years now :)
