BIOS Version CPU Compatibility Query

Go to solution Solved by kpreg,

Hello,

Referring to this list: http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/H81M-HDS/?cat=CPU

I used a 4590 in my last build with an ASRock H81M-HDS, and the compatibility list states that it will only work with BIOS 1.60+, and it worked fine. It also states that the Pentium G3240 requires 1.60+ - does this mean the G3240 is guaranteed to work with that same board without a BIOS update?

Motherboard: http://www.msy.com.au/pc-components/1249-asrock-h81m-hds-intel-h81-s1150-2xddr3-sata3-front-usb3-d-sub-dvi-hdmi-microatx-motherboard.html

Thanks.

Yeah, it'll work. It's always handy to have a flash drive with the latest BIOS just in case.

Can you flash a BIOS without any special feature while having no CPU installed?

ROG has some fancy stuff for that, but as far as I'm concerned no. Could be wrong though.
