I agree with pomaranc.

The CPU, videocard and motherboard are way overkill for HTPC duties.

What's the purpose of the htpc?

An APU would be ideal for a HTPC. I've thrown even more storage in this setup - 3x 4TB's. A nice 128GB SSD for the OS, and an aftermarket cooler to keep it even more quiet & cooler. You could shave off another ~$140 by getting 3x 3TB drives, but why not go for 3x 4TB's if you can afford it? That is, if you could do with the extra storage.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

Ok then. Thats totally different scenario. A bit beefier hardware setup would be necessary.

Can you give us an example of:

Budget

Graphic expectations including frame rates and resolution

Games that will be being played examples

This will affect CPU and GPU suggestions.

I still think the Motherboard is still overkill and a bit much, but if you don't need to pinch pennies and your set on it then go ahead. The CPU and GPU suggestions will be affected by my previous questions.

I would also suggest 8gb of ram.

Were not trying to run you in circles... we just didn't know how you wanted to use the HTPC and to the extent. And we still don't know the budget.

budget is very flexible as long as it does not go over 1,500 the motherboard i have not done a ton of research on motherboard yet so i just picked that as a place holder

i will probably play console like games on it. for example far cry, gta, and possible some racing games. I will be using a xbox controller. The screen will either be a 1440p 120 inch projector or 60 inch 4k tv (i know there very different but i am not sure the space i have is large enough for projector and i dont have a standard source of income)

Do you expect to play at 4k Or 1080p scaled to 4k?

Do you expect to play medium - high - ultra graphical settings? Or combination therein.

Then just get a 8TB hard drive.

because its much cheaper to run 2 4tb or 2 3tb in raid than run an 8tb hdd just because i could afford it does not mean i want to burn money on something that can be done for at least $100 less
