Handbrake doesn't rip properly

Go to solution Solved by hknutsen,

Not common at all.

Have you decrypted the discs first? or running applicable software that does this in the background? Handbrake by itself, I believe, is no longer able to decrypt DVDs.

After reading on other forums, I found out that VLC 2.0 broke HandBrake. I could just download an earlier version of VLC, but I decided to give MakeMKV a try, and it worked like a charm.

I decided to back up all my media. I ripped all my music with no problems using dBpoweramp. I decided to try Handbrake for ripping DVDs, though I have some problems. I tried ripping several DVDs using the default settings, but each time the result is an almost completely black screen with horrible audio consisting of crackling and other annoying sounds. Is this a common problem, and how would I go about fixing it? One thing to add is that my drive is pretty old.
