2 Singles Slot = 1 Dual Slot RAMs?

Go to solution Solved by Prastupok,

Is having 2 different purchase of RAMs (Let's say I bought 2 separate Kingston Fury 4GBs at 1600MHz) same as buying a kit of 2x4GB of the same brand and frequency?

If they are the same brand, then yes. In general they will work.

I always recommend matched sticks in all DIMMs, though... little differences in production do make a difference.

My board only has 2-slotted DIMMs though.

What if I have 2 different brands but rated as same?

For what you're doing, it should.

Don't quote me on this, but I think that dual may be a fraction of a hair faster just because you have the same amount of ram, but being accessed with twice the amount of bandwidth. However, you would probably only ever see the benefits of dual 4gbs with high memory tasks, like heavy video editing or major multitasking.

You can mix and match different brands and ratings of RAM all you want. It will still work, it just runs at the speed of the slowest stick.
