I have an HDD windows 7 installed. I just ordered an SDD and windows 8.1 installed. I don't care about any information saved on my pc. Nothing vital. But would it be wise to buy a 4gb min usb drive and do that ISO download for windows 7 since I don't think I'll use it anymore, but just have it since well, I already have it and as a backup...

1. Put windows 7 on USB drive.

2. Install new optical drive (Any recommendations? one that burns dvds, but plays Blue rays would be cool, my current one is busted)

3. unplug HDD

4. plug in SSD and then run windows 8.1 installation disc or is it disk?

5. and then just have windows 7 sitting in the case only going to it when I need it if I ever need it.

Does this make sense to anyone? Am I on the right track? I have never had an sdd, but I heard I would want to get windows 8.1 because in the near future, we're gonna need it for dx12 and such. OR should I just download 8.1 on this HDD and then move it to an SDD and buy the enthoo luxe PC case, cause mine is crap...

Any tips though or any thought please...Thank you very much. :)

Do you want to use the SSD, as a storage device, or do you want to use it as your main boot drive? If you just wanna use it as a storage drive, and install things on it, just plug it in, when you boot your rig you should get a boot selection screen, to boot into either Win7 or Win8 since you'll have 2 drives with 2 different OS's on. Pick Windows 7, then when on your desktop, just manually format the SSD yourself.

Oh, I was going to just use the SDD drive all together and well never touch my HDD again. It would literally just be "there." I just got the 500GB Samsung evo. but unsure what my next step is. I was thinking ordering windows 8,1 or getting a USB drive and doing the iso file download onto it and then reformatting windows 7. (it needs it and I don't have the disc.) OR just moving all the parts to a new enthoo luxe case, reformatting windows 7 and getting 8.1 later on down the line. I just don't want to miss that windows 10 upgrade for dx12. Somone suggested to me that I should get windows 8 asap. Or I could just have windows 7 on both drives, once I get the USB iso file. DOes downloading that from a site actually work as long as I have a legal key code. What is the best site to use?
