Do I need to clean new CPU and new cooler prior to install

PCSharkey

I seen linus cleaning the CPU and cooler in a fresh build, I unfortunately cannot find 99% isopropyl alcohol anywhere for a decent price or in a decent time frame, I have 70% alcohol wipes but i'm afraid about the water content or the apparent impurities they leave.
If you could help me out that would be great.
Thanks

I had trouble installing my CPU cooler (first build) and I cleaned the CPU with 70% before trying again and re-applying the thermal paste. I also did this to the cooler before trying again, but I wasn't planning to do it the first time, there's a sticker at the bottom anyway.

So yeah, I used 70% alcohol and it worked for me, no problems. If it's brand new and you remove the sticker before installing it you'll be fine. If the sticker was already removed a while ago (not just 30 seconds, I'm talking about quite some time) or there is no sticker at all on the new cooler, then I suggest wiping it.
