Software RAID - Use after reformat?

Go to solution Solved by xBlizzDevious,

After doing a little research, I found this.

Is the storage forum a little less active than most others on LTT?

I've normally had about 5 responses by now.

Hello!

Just a quick question about software RAID. I'm normally a hardware RAID user, but a few months ago I set up my PC with software RAID on two 2TB drives (RAID 0) and have been using that just fine ever since. I'm currently on Windows 7 and will be reformatting shortly to try out Windows 10 on my main PC.

Now I know that one of the major benefits of software RAID is system compatibility - however, I've never reformatted after using it and want to make sure I'm not going to have a disaster when I start back up.

So:

1. Will Windows recognise that there is software RAID data on the drives and load up as if I'd never changed anything?

2. Will Windows need me to point it to the two drives for it to then realise that there's software RAID there?

3. Something else?
