CPU heating up extremely.

Go to solution Solved by KamiKatze,

Allready did that... ^^

I bought 20g which should be enough for the next few years.

OMG. :D :D :D

Try to re-seal it when putting it away or it will dry out over the years. :D

Hello LTT Forums... ^^

I am having a little problem because my CPU (i7-4790K @4.0GHz cooled by Hydro H110) is IDLING at 40°C-50°C and shutting off when forcing it to 100%.

The PC is prebuilt cuz I was too lazy to build it myself.

So what should I do?

Re-mount the CPU block.

Unscrew it, remove the old junk with isopropyl alcohol from the CPU and the cooling block.  Put a rice-sized line of new thermal compound down the middle and screw your cpu cooler on again in a cross pattern.

who cares...

Which thermal paste would you recommend?

Arctic MX-2 or MX-4. Noctua NT-H1.

That's all very cost effective stuff. ;)

Another possible problem is that some air may be stuck in the pump but it would make a strong grinding noise if that was the case.

Wow, you're a quick shooter. :D it's never bad to have some thermal compound at home. If you're unsure how to apply the thermal past, watch some of the older PC-build guides from LTT. ;)
