IMEI missing help.

Go to solution Solved by markymark,

I have the original EMI number for the phone on the sticker under the batter that i want to use. I also dont have the partition backed up. I dont think the ohone will work without a IMEI cuz, i tried making a call with my active Rogers sim card but the card is not detected.

Who and how was the unlock done? I'm assuming it was a sim unlock and not a bootloader unlock right? I wouldn't think it would be possible to wipe the efs partition doing a sim unlock but during a bootloader unlock it is definitely possible. Just google efs partition, i9505 efs partition and things along those lines. You might be able to find out why it's gone.

Hi fellow LTT community. I have this Samsung S4 SGH-i337m that has a missing IMEI in settings. Where it usually say the IMIE its blank. I noticed this after i got my phone unlocked, i didn't bother to check IMIE before the unlock. I was wondering if there is a FREE way to get the IMEI number back with out a need of a service box. I Googled for  days now on the netter and have tried the terminal method after i rooted the S4 but, it did not work and for me to use Z3 tool i need to buy a service box. Anyone know how to recover the IMEI for free? I also tried through the service menu with no luck. Its just my extra old phone but, i cant sell it with a missing IMEI. Anyone know how to recover the number?

Unless you backed up the partitions of the phone there is no way to get it back. I believe it is stored in the /efs partition. There are (were?) tools that you could use to back it up back when I was into ROMs on my S3. Also changing the IMEI is a federal offence (I once read) so you should be careful to not just change it and sell it or you could get in way more trouble than you want to.

Update: I got it fixed using the method used in this like http://www.droidviews.com/backup-and-restore-lost-imei-on-samsung-galaxy-devices-without-root/. Thx markymark for recomending to try searching efs partition, I found the link with that search.
