Hey guys i need some help here.

i got some spare money for upgrading my rig but i cant decide what to upgrade.

i wanted to put a kingston ssd but my mobo does not have sata III ports, so i was thinking in upgrading my cpu from sandy bridge to ivy bridge but now im thinking in getting a new case because the one i have right now SUCKS.

Anyway i would apreciate any help

My actual Rig

Core i3 2120

8gb ram

500gb HDD

HD7770

800 watt PSU (yea i know its overkill)

crappy really crappy case

Possible upgrades

Mobo (for one that have sata3)

SSD 120 gb

New CPU (i5- 3330)

Case (i would love a nzxt phantom 410)

Get an SSD, it will still be a HUGE upgrade from your HDD. Your computer will be soooooo much faster than what you're used to. SSD's don't saturate SATA2 bandwidth with Random Reads & Writes anyway, just sequential and it's random that makes the biggest difference unless you're constantly copying huge files.

Get the SSD, thank me later :P

without having complications of windows and re-installing, i'd suggest a new case, the ssd (because despite not using the full potential it has, it will still be quicker then your hard drive, so worth the purchase - and can be used in a future rig when you have sata III in the future, thus a future proof purchase), and then maybe a new graphics card for the next gen of games?

Spoiler

Gaming/Engineering PC: -i7 6700K, 4-4.2GHz "Eleanor" -ASUS ROG HERO VIII MOBO -16GB DDR4 3000MHz Corsair (2x8GB) -Gigabyte Windforce 980Ti OC edition (1405MHz GPU clock) -H110i GT Corsair CPU Water cooler -980GB Sandisk Ultra II SSD -Corsair 450D ATX Case -RM850i Corsair PSU (Modular) -28” 4K Samsung -27” 1080p Samsung

my budget goes around the $130 USD

Not sure how you're going to do those upgrades (even ignoring the i5) on $130.

DESKTOP - Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H Processor - Intel Core i5-2500K @ Stock 1.135v Cooling - Cooler Master Hyper TX3 RAM - Kingston Hyper-X Fury White 4x4GB DDR3-1866 Graphics Card - MSI GeForce GTX 780 Lightning PSU - Seasonic M12II EVO Edition 850w  HDD -  WD Caviar  Blue 500GB (Boot Drive)  /  WD Scorpio Black 750GB (Games Storage) / WD Green 2TB (Main Storage) Case - Cooler Master 335U Elite OS - Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

A new motherboard will make basically no difference to your rigs performance unless you're overclocking, then a better motherboard will allow higher overclocks, then again an SSD will make a much bigger impact than a few extra MHz.

Yes a new motherboard will give you more and newer features such as SATA3 but... you don't need it... I wouldn't upgrade your motherboard on the budget you are now, buy more important parts first.

A new case... as you probably know won't make any difference to your performance at all, I would upgrade that after the SSD if you really care about looks, but not before... SSD first.

Get a samsung 840. Going from an hdd to a ssd is the most noticeable upgrade you can do with a PC.
