Best GPU for my purpose?

So I'm looking to build a computer at around $1000 (with in $100 above or below) which I was told is the "sweet spot" for a PC.  I have decided on everything so far aside from the graphics card.  However,  I have narrowed it down to two options.  Either the ASUS GTX 970 STRIX or the 960 STRIX.  I am planning on using this computer for editing (not 4k just like 1080p in sony vegas),  playing games such as BF4, Far Cry 4, etc, and a little bit of 3ds max.  Is getting the 970 worth the price for what I am doing or should I stick with the 960.

I would say the sweet spot is 1400 but to each his own

The 280/280x or 970 are good choices. Maybe even a 770 or 780 if you're ok with that.

I think the 970 is worth the extra investment over the 960. The 970 has more vram and more processing power in case you need it later on down the road.

I would go for a Gigabyte card vs a Strix from Asus. Better GPU binning and therefore better overclocking

I would go with keemos build, it's great and the 290x and i7 will be better in the long run.
