Ubuntu Doesn't Boot

Alright guys I am running Ubuntu on an old Dell Optiplex GX110 and I ran the installer off a disk then got to the point were it says take the disk out and run to start Ubuntu. I start it and Grub comes up with either Windows XP or Ubuntu. I click Ubuntu and then just black. I have waited for about 30 minutes and decided to power off. I have ran the recovery mode and ran the fix system files, and clean up but still black. I then clicked resume and it brings me just to a black screen were Iogin and can type commands in but no graphical interface loads. Any ideas on how to fix? It only has 512MB of RAM and 40 Gbs of space.

Just keeping this here as a Alright guys I am running Ubuntu on an old Dell Optiplex GX110 and I ran the installer off a disk then got to the point were it says take the disk out and run to start Ubuntu. I start it and Grub comes up with either Windows XP or Ubuntu. I click Ubuntu and then just black. I have waited for about 30 minutes and decided to power off. I have ran the recovery mode and ran the fix system files, and clean up but still black. I then clicked resume and it brings me just to a black screen were Iogin and can type commands in but no graphical interface loads. Any ideas on how to fix? It only has 512MB of RAM and 40 Gbs of space. 

 

Seems to be a problem with Mir, google for "Mir not loading on start up" or something similar.

Frost upon these cigarettes.... lipstick on the window pane...
