only problem with display port is that it cancels out the simplicity of one cable connection unlike HDMI. I love display ports and it is definitely going to be used within the future but I would prefer them to invest more into DVI technologies to produce higher resolutions and audio. DVI beats HDMI already and has been around a lot longer as well. The only difference is that HDMI has had a lot more support over the years.

Well, you can plug a Thunderbolt cable into a DisplayPort port, but you can't turn Displayport into Thunderbolt. You need an active adapter for DP -> VGA (and I think that is needed for DP -> HDMI/DVI as well). I do think that monitors should come with DisplayPort though. I have no idea why they don't. Only really high end ones does, for no apparent reason (since pretty much all GPUs has DisplayPort these days).

I would be happy if they could kill VGA, DVI and HDMI and only use DisplayPort in the future. Fairly sure that DisplayPort is better than DVI in every single way as well, except no analog signal.

Anyway to answer your question OP:

Because VGA is there for backwards compatibility. Why would you want DVI on a TV anyway? Use HDMI if you want a digital signal. DVI does not really have any benefit over HDMI on a TV, but HDMI has benefits over DVI on a TV (mainly sound).

the digital signals are easier to put into a board cause its only 1 and 0 and have u ever tried pluging in a cable behind a wall mounted tv try a dvi cable its 1000x more difficult

whats gonna end up stealing the #1 slot its gonna be display port not dvi ppl want simplicity
