Hey all, I am looking for a high end gaming motherboard that will last me years. I want at least 8gb ram and was wondering is there any point to go with 16gb? I wanted the new gen items and was looking at such boards as the Asus MAXIMUS VII RANGER Intel Z97 or Asus SABERTOOTH Z97. I will be playing games such as Counter Strike, League or Legends, H1Z1. I will be getting a 27" 144hz 1920 × 1080 monitor. The processor I was looking at was the Intel Core i5-4690K Socket 1150 'Devils Canyon'. Do you lot have any advise or recommendations? Also I do not want to overclock, I just want it to run just out of the box

gaming motherboards are honestly gimmicks and unless your planning MAJOR overclocks stick with a cheaper board

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Sabertooth  and the ranger are both good mobos but there is also the maximus vii formula

Aside from the fact motherboards don't affect performance in any way, the maximus vii is an absolute waste of money for pretty much anyone except extreme (and I do mean extreme) overclockers. The sabertooth is a much better choice, but I'd even go lower, for something like an asus z97-a. The cpu is good, get that. There is no point to go for 16gb for those games (or any to be honest). For the gpu, get an R9 290 if you can afford it, if not an R9 280 will be fine.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Parts that you listed are all good, and 4690k is great choice for the CPU.

if you don't want  to overclock buy a cheaper motherboard. and also don't get the 4690k just the 4690

Ok also im an nvidia fan boi so which GPU would you recommend?

960 is a sweetspot on 1080 i guess. but for a 144hz maybe a 970 is better.

16 GB's of RAM is only good (currently) if your a browser "tab" hog and like to open alot of tabs and watch/read them. Also ram is helpful if you play and watch youtube at the same time especialy if you use CHROME.

If your playing CSGO and LOL all the power you need is a R9 270X (not nvidia though), really no more , myself with a 580 get 200+ fps on csgo, but if you want to get new and long lasting parts i'd go for a 960 for what you play but for more versitility 970 is always a good choice.

144hz on 1080p is doable with any new gpu really.

As I said i have a 144hz monitor with a 580 and its 200+ fps drops lowest to 180.

a 970 gives you 3-400+fps maxed out(aa, and such on too), at 1080p in csgo

and like at least 160fps in bioshock infinite maxed out

First off, before graphics, if you agent going to overclock at all, don't get the 4690k. Just get the 4690, it'll save you $20-$40. If you think you *might dabble in overclocking later on then by all means get the devil's canyon.

Gigabyte and MSI offer some really cool gaming oriented boards for cheaper than the Asus Maximus series. Reliability-wise there's the Gigabyte "Black Edition" board that is server tested for I think something like 180 hours to make sure it's high quality.

8 gigs of RAM is fine, you can always add more later. Go with a 2x4GB kit as z97 boards are dual channel and have performance gain when running multiple sticks.

Team green (NVIDIA) offers great price to performance, and for the games you mentioned the 960 send to be the right choice for you. But stepping it up a notch you can always go for something higher like a 770 or 970, however this will be significantly more expensive (though I don't know your budget).

I understand you're on team green, but failing to mention the R9 series on AMD's side would be dumb on my part. The 280(x) cards are dirt cheap right now and offer a bit more performance than the 960. For $10 more than an MSI manufactured 960 you can get the Sapphire Vapor X 280X which is crazy powerful and quiet, at the cost of a good amount more power. Not that it'll make any difference on your power bill (~3-4¢ per month).

Cinders: - i7 4790K (4.5GHz) - Gigabyte Z97X-SOC - 16GB Klevv DDR3 1600MHz - EVGA GTX 980Ti ACX2.0+ (1548MHz Boost) - EVGA Supernova 850GS - NZXT H440 Orange/Black (Modified) -
Unnamed System: i5 4690K (4.2GHz) - MSI Z97I-AC - 8GB G.Skill DDR3 2400MHz - EVGA GTX 950 SSC - Raidmax Thunder V2 535W - Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX
