The games that it used to be able to run on fairly high specs, it can barely run now. For example I used to be able to run Crysis 1 on mid graphics settings, now I can barely run it at all.

Is your CPU and GPU keeping their clocks under load?

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

They are not, so I will look into external cooling. Thanks.

Well first, clean out your laptop and second, repaste the parts.

How would I go about cleaning it out?

Look up a guide online about disassembling the machine and use canned air to blow out the heatsinks and fans, and reapply thermal paste to it.

Did you already clean out your startup menu in msconfig? Because that usually gets cluttered after a few years of use...
