4790k overclock

Go to solution Solved by thekeemo,

thats normal your supposed to turn adaptive off. also try pushing it more. I got mine to 4.8 on a 212 evo

when Ioverclock my 4790k its stable at 4.6GHz with 1.28 volts on manual mode, but when I switch it to adaptive, it becomes unstable. Can someone tell me what is happening.

thanks!

4790k@4.5GHz, GTX 980, GTX 770 (physX card), 16 GB RAM, 840 evo 120, asus z97pro (wifi ac), kraken x41 cooler, evga supernova 750 G2

That's exactly what mine was at when it i got it. lower it to 1.25 manual, and see how high you can push the multiplier on 1.25. Don't bother increasing the voltage for a better clock speed until the processor begins to become outdated unless your okay with the higher power consumption and shortened lifespan. when you finish put it on adaptive.

4790k @ 4.6 (1.25 adaptive) // 2x GTX 970 stock clocks/voltage // Dominator Platnium 4x4 16G //Maximus Formula VII // WD Black1TB + 128GB 850 PRO // RM1000 // NZXT H440 // Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 (MX Blue) // Corsair M95 + Steelseries QCK // Razer Adaro DJ // AOC I2757FH

No dude, you want it on adaptive mode whenever you aren't stress testing.  Whenever you are stress testing, set it to manual.  When you aren't stress testing, you want adaptive.  To make it stable while in adaptive mode, increase the voltage ever so slightly.  Start increasing by increments of .003 and go until you are stable while using adaptive voltage.

Yeah, what HE said.

Adaptive mode is meant to be used, it's supposed to allow you to user higher voltages, but only when they are necessary, ultimately increasing the lifespan of your cpu. Say you have manual voltage of 1.29. An adaptive voltage at 1.30 will last longer, for the most part, unless for some reason you're pushing your cpu for 20+ hours a day.
