You are missing a .vbs file that the program from your Sony laptop uses.

What is strnage is that it is looking for it in Windows Temp directory.

Long live piss poor programming, I guess reading Microsoft online documentation on where to put files was too hard for the developers.

My guess is that the program actually put a file in the Temp directory like if NO ONE would clear the temp directoty ever, despite the name of the folder being TEMPorary.

Or that it tries to download a vbs script file from Sony servers, which is missing or corrupted, and instead of showing you an error, it assume it was done successfully, and tries to execute it.

You can try at a later time see if that helps. If not try to re-install your Sony VAIO updater program, and now run it.

Also, you might be interesting in knowing that Windows 8.1 is free to upgrade to for all Windows 8 users.

All you need to do is make sure Windows is fully updated, start the Windows 8 App store, and you'll have it in front of you. Click on it, and it will download and install it for you automatically :)

(if you just re-installed your system and aiming to get Windows 8.1 once you install your driver, then please don't take the above offensive or anything. Some people genuinely don't know)

To me it sounds like a bug with the software itself. You should contact Sony technical support about the issue.

But why are you trying to make it work? Just remove the updater, and download the latest drivers yourself from Sony website. Yes I know it is more convenient, don't get me wrong, but I think you'll spend less time doing so, then trying to fix a bug that is pretty much out of your control.
