If you want to servo to be able to do a full rotation you are going to have to mod it.

Not necessarily, there are continuous rotation servos such as

But you can also mod a regular servo

 

In terms of controlling it, it's a matter of sending a PWM signal accordingly to the datasheet specs

 

 

Keep in mind that continuous rotation servos don't allow to control a rotation angle, you can only control the rotation speed
