FSB overclocking help

Go to solution Solved by harrynowl,

I saw the info about single threaded performance from a video by jayz2cents thanks for the info guys I will stick to multipler then

He says about FSB and single threaded performance but doesn't provide any actual information, sources or graphs showing it :P

I am planning on fsb overclocking my fx 6300 (using fsb and not multiplier for the stronger single threaded performance, the weaker part of my cpu) and I was wondering as long as i lower my ram speed to what it originally was is it ok to change my fsb frequency? I read that increasing fsb freq. will affect the pcie bus as well and I want to make sure before I begin

From the CPU's perspective, it's the same overclock with the same performance. The problem is you overclock other things like bus speeds and that leads to severe instability problems. Stick to a multiplier overclock. There is no getting around the fx-6300's poor single-threaded performance. You can overclock it (with the multiplier), but that can only go so far.

Also remember that FX CPUs are not like Intel CPUs with regards to safe temperatures. Whereas intel CPUs can go up to 80掳C, FX CPUs shouldn't go above 60掳C.

I don't see where people get this FSB single threaded stuff from... I saw no difference.

I know you go for the highest HT link and NB clocks possible for best performance... but you can do that without raising the the FSB past 200.
