The HTC has a better body. Samsung is slightly faster, and is expandable. The cameras are both good (unless you like zooming in to photos after you click them, in which case the HTC is just not good enough). Both come with the latest version of Android (the HTC One has just been updated to 4.2.2). They will both be supported for a long long time (about 18 months). Which UI you prefer is upto you (though it is easy to change launchers, or even entire ROMs if you're willing to root). It might be important to note the SGS4 comes with about 7.5 GB of its internal memory already used, so the 16GB model is not recommended.

Ultimately, go to a store and see what you like. You can't go wrong with either phone.

why not give Sony some love too!

I love my Xperia Z and have had zero issues.

If you can (have the money and live in the area) get the Google Edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4. I think the S4 Google Edition is way better than the stock S4. The One is awesome but the if the camera had at least 8 megapixels it would be AWESOMESAUCE. If you don't take so many pictures then get the One anyways (for the front facing speakers).

Well Samsung is working on an update to be able to install apps on the MicroSD card slot

That update is already out.

It was released like a week ago.

Pros of each device:

Galaxy S 4:

  • More features (like multi window, can be used while wearing gloves and so on)
  • More accessories
  • Newer Android version (and higher chance of getting longer support)
  • Higher performance (CPU, GPU as well as storage performance)
  • Removable battery
  • microSD card slot
  • Smaller, thinner, lighter.
  • Longer battery life (under normal usage)
  • Faster charging
  • Better still images (in normal light)
  • 25GB more Dropbox space (you get 25GB with the One, and 50GB with the Galaxy S 4).

HTC One:

  • Feels more premium (aluminum vs plastic)
  • Front facing stereo speakers
  • Better video recoding (higher FOV and better image stabilization)
  • Better still images (in low light, like indoors)
  • Lowest capacity model is 32GB (compared to 16)
  • FM Radio

You can't go wrong with either. Also, you can install pure Android on both of them quite easily.

I'm in love with the HTC One. Too bad that I already bought the Nexus 4 so I just can't allow myself to replace it so soon. Then again, the Nexus 4 is amazing as well. Never been a fan of the plasticy feel of the Galaxy S phones from Samsung. I've never missed the possibilities to expand my storage and replace my batteries. 16 gigs is plenty for me.

Depends where you are, Samsung finished the update now it's in the hands of carriers who will be pushing it in the coming weeks and months (probably months when talking about North American cell providers)

I have a GS4 and it is a great phone..My lil bro has the ONE and he loves it..Although my lil bro upgraded from a iphone 4 so even a rock would have been a upgrade..

LMAO!   I love that! Yeah, even my sis-in-law, who has a 4S now, is looking to move to a Samsung phone. And it so happens she looking to get my S3 since I've upgraded to an S4. Though mine's the 16GB version, I've installed a 64GB mSD card (hoping it'd support 128GB mSD cards when they're out) as I love putting 720P movies on my phone to while away the time when I'm commuting. Only thing I miss from my S3 is the radio, why the heck was it not included in the S4?
