Decreasing FPS In Games

Go to solution Solved by SeanBond,

It may be but I don't know the best way to raise the temp limit

MSI Afterburner has the slider locked for Temp Limit

your memory is actually 1600mhz, (double data rate) but I don't think I know of anyone who actually has a 760ti. Can you turn the fan speed up?

Recently I've been getting decreased performance while gaming.  In easier to run games such as Smite (Similar graphics to League of Legends) my frames are fine.  However when I play a game like Advanced Warfare at high settings, my frames slowly drop over the course of about 15 minutes.  They start out wavering at around 90 fps then after 15 minutes begin averaging 80 and frequently dipping into the 60s.  I previously ran the game at 90 fps solid for hours on end.

My GPU temp climbs to 80 almost immediatly then sits there without moving.  I opened up MSI Afterburner and looked at the harware analysis and noted the gpu usage was at 100% while playing Advanced Warfare.

Ultimately I have 2 questions:  1) Is my graphics card the source of my problem    2) Is there anything else that could be the source?

Thanks!

Is you gpu set to throttle at 80 in afterburner? I would set it to say 84 to see if that alleviates the issue at all. As long as it's hitting that threshold it's possible it could keep downclocking and downclocking until it's stable not generating more heat than it can deal with.

Wait so you're telling me your 760 can run AW on high @ 90 FPS at 1080p but my 780 can't? What.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

This is going to kill your ears but raise your fans to 80 in afterburner and see if it still causes the issue. Games like smite which aren't very graphically intensive won't cause your gpu to get super hot, where as a title like aw will. So try that for us please

If the cooler is anything like that of the 770 and up then 80 will be noisy but won't shatter glass like a 290 lol.

I have 2 290's with reference coolers that I run at 55% haha. It's not as bad as people say, but it can be a nuisance at times.

I have open ear headphones and my system 3 feet away, I can't hear the fan ramp up until about 80% through my open ear headphones. And that's with no sound played, with sound it could probably hit 100 but I have it set to max around 65%

ok good. Tell us how that goes, if it doesn't work then I would point at (maybe) a memory leak. The recent cod titles have been infamous as far as that's concerned.

I cranked the fans up to 65 and now the temps sticking at about 70 degrees.  Afterburner's auto must have them running too low

Afterburner will do that on auto. Check to see if the game maintains frame rate.

It does! Thanks for the help

Awesome, it is weird that you can't change thermal limits though.
